The doctor's office... later that same day.

So, I called the doctor's office the minute they opened and scheduled an appointment to have a blood test to confirm my at home test results.

They were able to work me in at 230 in the afternoon, and I had a meeting from 9-12. I sat through the meeting with a grin, but didn't say a word - for fear of having had a false positive. After calling and talking to Mom, though - I had the feeling a false positive was outside the realm of probability.

The minutes dragged by until 230 came, and I went in, got my blood drawn, and was told the results would take about an hour. I went to the waiting room, and began to wait. And fell asleep. Woke back up and waited some more. And fell back asleep.

Then I started to think back to the day before. A travel day, coming home from North Carolina. I couldn't keep my eyes open on the plane to save my life. Now, under normal circumstances, I do sleep on planes, but rarely do I feel quite so compelled.

It was all beginning to make sense. I was tired because I was pregnant! I dared not get too excited as they FINALLY called me in to see the doctor. I waited in the room by myself nervously. I took out my phone and tried to send a text to Alex, but I had no bars in there. So I sat.

It felt like years.

Finally, the door opened, in walked the smiling doctor who said "Congratulations!". To be honest, I didn't hear much else of what she said. All I kept thinking was, oh my god, I'm pregnant! This is amazing!!!

I had to be referred out to the OB/GYN, and was told it would be a day or so before I got a call with the appointment information.

So off I went - homeward bound to celebrate (and take a nap)!

I'd never seen two lines before!

We had just gotten back from a great vacation in North Carolina the night before. And, as had become (and remains today) the habit - my bladder woke me up at 5:10am. I stumbled into the bathroom, and didn't even turn on the lights. I noticed as I approached the toilet that there was the pregnancy test I had laid out the night before. (This had become a habit for me - every so often since we started trying to get pregnant, I would lay out a pregnancy test to take when I first got up the next morning)

So - I took the necessary steps, and sat the test on the floor while I finished my own business. Then I glanced at it briefly, as I started to step over it and head back to bed. Only, I noticed that it looked vaguely like it had 2 lines instead of 1. Figuring that I must be halucinating, I turned on the bathroom light, rubbed my eyes, and picked up the test to get a better look. Two. Lines.

I gasped.

Could I actually be pregnant? Surely this is a dream, or a practical joke, or a misunderstanding, or - a false positive! I walked into the bedroom where Alex was peacefully sleeping. I turned on the bedside lamp, and called his name. This startled him, and he thrust his hands into the air like he was being held up. Then he focused on me, and I said - "Honey, put your glasses on, I need you to look at something for me". As he was putting on his glasses, I said - "Do you see two lines there?" "Two lines" he said.

I covered my mouth with my hand, while my husband sat looking at this little piece of plastic that was quickly changing both of our lives.

"I think we did it. I think we're pregnant" I said. I grabbed the test back, and ran into the kitchen where my camera was. I took pictures of the positive test, and then walked back into the bedroom.

I told Alex to go back to sleep, and that I would try to get in to the doctor to get a blood confirmation as soon as possible. Naturally, I was so excited I couldn't actually sleep myself. So I came out into the living room at 530 in the morning on Friday May 15th, and sat in disbelief and wonder.

I was bursting with excitement and called the doctor's office the minute they opened in hopes of confirming what I was so desperately hoping was the truth...
